GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A Gaston County murder suspect accepted a plea deal that will keep him behind bars for at least 20 years. Β
Officials say 56-year-old Steve Neely confessed to killing David Colbert. Β Police found Colbert on Ebony Avenue bleeding from his neck. Β He was pronounced dead on the scene. Β
Neely told prosecutors his mother recently died and he did not want his family to go through anymore stress so he wanted to take the plea deal for second degree murder instead of going to trial. Β
