CONROE, Texas (AP) β Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has avoided jail time with a plea agreement to resolve his child abuse case. Peterson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault after his 4-year old son was injured when Peterson struck him with a wooden switch. It’s not immediately clear when Peterson, who has been on paid leave, will be able to rejoin the Vikings.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) β Anaheim Ducks back-up goalie John Gibson will be out for six weeks with a groin injury suffered during warmups before Saturday’s game with Colorado. The 21-year old rookie is 2-2-0 with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage in his first full NHL season.
MIAMI (AP) β The U.S. government says the Yankees Alex Rodriguez gave his cousin nearly $1 million last year to keep secret Rodriguez’s use of performance enhancing drugs. In court documents filed last week in Miami, federal prosecutors said Rodriguez made four wire payments totaling $900,000 between June 2013 and September 2013 to settle a threatened lawsuit by Yuri Sucart, who had worked as Rodriguez’s personal assistant.

UNDATED (AP) β WNBA star Brittany Griner was uninjured after being attacked by a man with a knife while boarding a team bus in China. The 6-foot-8 Griner was wearing a winter coat and was barely cut on the elbow. She didn’t require any stitches. The attacker was apprehended.
