CHARLOTTE, NC — UNC Charlotte will annouce the next head coach of its men’s basketball team Wednesday. We first reported Tuesday night on WCCB News @ Ten that Alan Major’s replacement may be an NBA All-Star.
The school didn’t go too far to find its next bench boss. It’s all but official that Hornet’s assistant Mark Price will become the 10th head coach for the Charlotte 49ers. Price has plenty of basketball experience. He was an All-American at Georgia Tech, he played 12 seasons in the NBA and was a 4-time All-Star.
The 51-year-old has been an NBA assistant for eight seasons, but he’s never been a head coach at any level. Hornets players, including poing guard Kemba Walker, believe Price has what it takes to do the job.
“He’s been great for me,” said Walker. “Mark has helped me just become a better player overall, a better point guard, a better leader. He’s a guy I work with each and every day. He’s been a real help for me, you know, throughout his time.”
Price has spent the past two seasons in Charlote working as one of Steve Clifford’s assistants.
