CHESTER, S.C. – Blood from a deadly shooting, still visible on a car near the scene. Whether it’s the blood of Chester City Councilman Odell Williams–or his killer–remains to be seen. The gunmen could be part of what’s known as the “Roundtree Circle Gang.” Chester County Sheriff Alex Underwood says, “I do believe there were individuals that were part of the gang. As far as the motive, and the reason this took place, we can’t determine that right now.”Β
Williams was reportedly inside his car when he was hit by one bullet and killed Tuesday night. Investigators found between 15 to 20 shell casings on the scene. They declined to say whether Williams fired back at his killers. The Sheriff says the gunmen were in a tan pick-up truck that has been processed and impounded.Β

The shooting happened near the intersection of Parkway Drive and Roundtree Circle. It’s not far from Williams’ home. But why he was driving around at 8 PM, is still unclear. Apparently the altercation started at another location in the county. The Sheriff declined to name that location, saying his deputies are still conducting interviews. The Sheriff says, “Councilman Williams was a police officer here in Chester and I knew him when I first started in law enforcement. He’s one of the most upstanding citizens in this county.”Β

As a memorial begins to grow, neighbor Melissa Buchanan wonders if another recent incident is connected. She says, “My front door was shot out and a couple more houses were shot into around in the neighborhood. But nobody (sic) been picked up for it. It just don’t (sic) make no (sic)Β sense.”

Virginia Minter owns that blood splattered car. She says she heard two different guns fire shots Tuesday night. Williams was her second cousin. She says, “He didn’t deserve this. He was a good person. I don’t think nobody (sic) deserves to die like that.”Β

The Sheriff says they have “strong leads” in the case. SLED is assisting in this investigation. They want anyone with any information–no matter how small–to contact them:Β
