ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police say they are looking into a former rape case at Winthrop University due to similarities in a recent sexual assault. Β
Investigators arrested 24-year-old John Roddey Jr. Friday after he allegedly held a weapon to a student’s body, forced her to take off her clothes and raped her near a dorm on campus.Β
Police believe the recent case has several similarities to a kidnapping and sexual assault that happened in 2011. Β
In that case, investigators say a man used a kitchen knife to threaten and kidnap a student as she was walking to her car. Β The suspect forced the victim to drive to a nearby apartment complex where he allegedly raped her.
Detectives plan on looking into forensic evidence to try to link the cases. Β Roddey is currently in the York County Detention Center with no bond.
