Wilson’s World: Simmons YMCA New American Welcome Center

This morning Wilson’s World visited the Simmons YMCA & their New American Welcome Center. The Simmons YMCA is located in East Charlotte, an extremely diverse corridor in the community. Charlotte has one of the fastest growing populations in the U.S. and 15% of Meck County residents are foreign-born.

The Y has a long history of helping immigrants integrate into new communities. Did you know the YMCA was the first organization in the U.S. to offer English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to immigrants. The‎ New American Welcome Centers (NAWC) provides a model to assist with the needs of newcomer and immigrant community members.
