Parents Speak Out After Six-Year-Old Dies in Street Racing Crash

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. – We’re hearing from the parents of a six-year-old boy killed in a street racing crash.

Liam Lagunas and his father Santiago, who is now out of the hospital, were innocent victims after one of the cars street racing – crossed the center line, hitting them head on. It happened on U.S. 74 in Gaston County last Saturday night.

The little boy’s parents say they are devastated by the loss.

“My son didn’t deserve to leave this world at six years old. He had a whole life ahead of him. They took that from him. They took everything from him and me, and his dad, and his grandma, and everybody that loves him. We can’t replace that,” says Liam’s mother Brandi Birrittier.

Witnesses tell troopers the two cars were racing at speeds up to 100 miles and hour.

Charges are pending against the alleged speed racers.
