Crews Recover Body of Missing Swimmer on Lake Norman in Catawba Co.

CATAWBA CO., N.C. – A tragic start to the 4th of July weekend on Lake Norman.

Crews have recovered the body of a swimmer who drowned near Giles Avenue in Catawba County.

Investigators have not released the name of the person, who was swimming off the back of a boat around 4:00 on Saturday afternoon, when they went under and never resurfaced.

Officials say the lake is about 20 feet deep where they went missing.
