CHARLOTTE, NC — We know more about what happened before and after lightning struck a 9-year-old boy in west Charlotte. It happened on the track at Johnson C. Smith University as storms rolled through Wednesday afternoon.
The boy’s sister made a frantic call to 911. She told the operator that his eyes were open but he was not responding. “My younger brother got hit my lightning. I think he’s dead,” she said.
“Are you with him now?” asked the 911 operator.
“We were in the field throwing javelins, and he just got shocked,” responded his sister.
Medic told WCCB Charlotte the boy had life-threatening injuries when paramedics took him to the hospital. There’s no word on his condition as of Thursday night.
Your chances of being struck by lightning are one in a million.
