NEWTON, NC – Tonight parents and students are stunned after a High School Coach and Teacher was found dead.
Police aren’t giving many details, but we’re told they found Maggie Daniels inside her townhome on West 17th Street around 10 Saturday morning.
It’s less than a mile from where she worked at Discovery High School.
Parents say Daniels was a basketball coach and English teacher for years at Newton-Conover High but more recently moved to Discovery to be a guidance counselor.
Parents and students say there are too many unanswered questions. They say there were no obvious signs of injury.
“My kids loved her, she would always go running around, you would see her, everybody could set their watch to when she would be running and everything,” says neighbor and parent Ishmael Sifford. “It’s just so sad to see her go and that this happened, and it happened so close to us.”
Sunday, there will be a drop-in for Daniels at the Discovery High cafeteria from three until five. Counselors and faith leaders will be on hand.
