Β CHARLOTTE, N.C.–Β A man was killed in a hit-and-run accident around 8:15 Β Saturday night in theΒ 6400 block of South Boulevard.
Police say that Angel Cruz, 43, was on a moped that was stopped and was waitingΒ to turn left into a shopping center parking lot whenΒ James Lesage, 51, rear ended him. Cruz and the moped traveled into the opposite lane andΒ a third carΒ struck Cruz and the moped as a result of the first collision.Β
Lesage failed to stop at the scene and fled south on South Boulevard.Β The second car stopped at the crash scene.
Cruz was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to medic.Β
Officials say that aΒ witness who saw the crash called 911 and provided a suspect vehicle description and tag number. Officers then responded to the registered address for the suspect vehicle where Lesage and the car were located at the home.Β
Lesage was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, felony hit and run, and felony death by vehicle. He is currently in custody.Β
Detectives are still actively investigating the crash.
