Cherry Neighborhood Residents Concerned About Proposed 28 Story Tower

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Neighbors and some city leaders are raising concerns about a proposed 28 story tower in the Cherry neighborhood.

A developer wants to build it on two acres along South Kings Drive, between East 3rd and East 4th Streets.

Critics worry the development will add to issues with traffic and a lack of affordable housing.

Charlotte City Council is considering a rezoning petition for the project.

“Just making sure that we are not just rubber stamping petitions as they come across the dais. You know, I really want them to be more mindful of smart growth,” explains Cherry resident Sylvia Biddle-Patton.

Plans for what will go inside the tower haven’t been finalized. One option includes retail and residential space.
