CMPD: Man Charged After Child Accidentally Shoots 4-Year-Old In Northwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say they are investigating after a 4-year-old was accidentally shot by another child in northwest Charlotte.

The shooting was reported on August 16th around 11:45am on Long Ridge Lane in the Coulwood West neighborhood in northwest Charlotte.  CMPD says a child at the home located an unsecured firearm and accidentally shot the 4-year-old.

Police charged Willie Allen with failure to properly store a firearm to protect a minor and possession of a firearm by a felon.  CMPD says Allen was the only adult inside the home when the shooting occurred.  Police say they found several firearms inside the home that were loaded and easily accessible.

The child was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
