CHARLOTTE, N.C. (News Release) — The Humane Society of Charlotte, in collaboration with NoDa Brewing Co. is celebrating the release of the limited-edition Rescue Brew beer and the winners of the wildly successful Rescue Brew Photo Contest. The design of the Rescue Brew can, created by local artist Robert Wildermuth of Robert Bobby Art, features the two champions: Sir Percy the cat and Cheyenne the dog.
The Rescue Brew release party will take place this Friday, August 27, from 4-8 pm at the NoDa Brewing Co. taproom on N. Tryon Street, and the specially brewed beer will be on draft and available for purchase in 4-packs. Official Rescue Brew announcements will take place at 6 pm.
Rescue Brew, a lager brewed with lemon and lime, was brewed especially with HSC in mind to celebrate the love of pets, their people, and the end of summer. All Rescue Brew photo contest participants are invited, and the top three finalists in each category and their families will be honored with a few surprises.
The contest’s initial fundraising goal of $25,000 was raised within the first week of the online competition. After four weeks, an astonishing total of $63,794 was raised by the community.
“We are blown away by the support this campaign received,” said Kelsey Ruocco, HSC Events & Social Media Manager. “We know that Charlotteans love their craft beer and their pets, but we never expected to raise over $60,000. We are incredibly grateful for all of the participants, voters, Robert Wildermuth, and NoDa Brewing for their support.”
Funds raised during the Rescue Brew photo contest support the work of the Humane Society of Charlotte and the animals in their care. During the contest, participants submitted a photo of their dog or cat for a $10 entry fee, and voters were able to lend their support to their favorite competitor with a $1 donation vote. The top three dogs and top three cats with the most votes on July 31, 2021, advanced to the finalist round where a selection committee decided which participants best represented the spirit of Rescue Brew. The final two winners were named Top Dog and Queen City Kitty.
The Humane Society of Charlotte hopes to make the Rescue Brew fundraiser an annual event to celebrate the love between people and their pets, local Charlotte partnerships, and the future of the new Humane Society of Charlotte as they open the upcoming HSC Animal Resource Center on Berryhill Drive in the spring of 2022.
