NEW YORK (AP) β Brooklyn’s Nets have something the Indiana Pacers want: the final playoff berth in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. Entering tonight’s game in New York between the two clubs the Nets top the Pacers by a half game. Brooklyn comes in having won seven of its last 10 while Indiana has lost seven of its last 10 games.
NEW YORK (AP) β Semifinal play in the National Invitation Tournament is tonight in New York. The four teams that earned a spot in the semi’s in Madison Square Garden are Miami, Temple, Old Dominion and Stanford. The championship game will be Thursday night.
UNDATED (AP) β Two Division I schools have filled coaching vacancies. St. John’s has named former star Chris Mullen to run things from the bench while George Mason has hired Dave Paulsen. For Mullen it’s his first head coaching job while Paulsen joins the Patriots from Bucknell, where he was a three-time Patriot League coach of the year.
UNDATED (AP) β The scene is set for the women’s Final Four. Winners last night were Connecticut and Maryland and they will join South Carolina and Notre Dame in Tampa this Sunday for the national semifinals. The championship game will be played in Tampa next Tuesday.
MESA, Ariz. (AP) β The baseball players association is considering litigation in support of Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant. Despite having a great spring training camp Bryant was sent to the team’s minor league camp. The bottom line to all this is if the 23-year-old spends 12 or more days in the minor leagues, Chicago would delay him from becoming eligible for free agency by one year, until after the 2021 season, according to baseball’s collective bargaining agreement.
