Lizzo Tweet Starts Feisty Fan Debate: Who Is The Queen Of Pop?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The world is full of seemingly never ending heavy, serious news, so please allow The Edge to provide a brief moment of distraction and fun debate. Lizzo has started a heated conversation about the Queen of Pop. As The Root reports, Lizzo tweeted on Sunday her list of all-time pop and R&B greats. Then she named the best of the best in other genres.

Lizzo says Janet Jackson is the Queen of Pop. The 55-year old is a singer, songwriter, dancer and actress. According to the very reliable Wikipedia: she has sold more than 100 million records, making her one of the world’s best selling artists. Her hits include: Nasty, Rhythm Nation, That’s The Way Love Goes, Together Again and All For You. She holds multiple U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles records. And in December 2016, Billboard Magazine named her the second most successful dance club artist after Madonna.

Speaking of Madonna: plenty of Madonna fans did not agree with Lizzo that Janet is the Queen of Pop. They argue Madonna is. Wikipedia even references Madonna as the Queen of Pop. The 63-year-old has sold more than 300 million records worldwide. Madonna is certified as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records She is the also the most successful solo artist in the history of the U.S. Hot 100 Billboard chart.

Our question of the night: who is the Queen of Pop: Janet Jackson or Madonna?
