DURHAM, NC —Β A show of unity against hatred Wednesday night at duke University. Β It comes after someone placed a noose on a tree outside the university’s student center.
300 people marched across campus Wednesday night, chanting, “We are not afraid, and we stand together.” Β The noose, made out of yellow rope, was discovered overnight. Β Police removed it right away. Β
The Vice President of Student Affairs, Larry Moneta, says if the goal was to create fear, it’s not working. Β He also called the act cowardly and stupid.
“All I want to say to our black students is I love you all and black lives matter,” said Moneta. Β “I want to say to our Muslim students that Muslim lives matter. Β I want to say to our Christian students, to our Hindu students, to our Buddhist students, to our Atheist students: all lives matter.”
The university says whoever is responsible will be held accountable.
