LANCASTER, SC — A toddler is in critical condition after he suffered heat stroke while playing inside a car in Lancaster. The family says the three-year-old got out of the house when his mother fell asleep. They do not know how long he was in the car Wednesday. The windows were up and the doors were shut. His grandmother made a frantic call to 911.
“He got out of the house and got into the car, and it’s hot outside,” said the boy’s grandmother.
“How long was he in the hot car ma’am?” asked the dispatcher.
“I don’t know,” she answered.
Temperatures outside were in the 90s at the time. Deputies say a family dog that was in the car with the boy died. The Department of Social Services is looking into the incident.
