Budget Fight Continues In Union County After New Trial Ordered

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A new trial has been ordered in a case between Union County commissioners and the school district over budget funding. Β

The N.C. Court of Appeals sided with the Union County commissioners after they appealed a jury’s decision to award $91 million to the school district in a 2013 hearing.

Commissioners were scared they would have to enforce a major tax increase or cut numerous services due to the large amount of money the jury awarded the school district.

The original argument that landed both sides in court was over $8 million dollars.

The N.C Court of Appeals claimed the school system could only ask for funding needs in one fiscal year. Β
