Helene Aftermath

Helene Aftermath

Since making landfall near Perry, Florida late Thursday, September 26, as a category 4 hurricane, Helene has left an 800 mile path of destruction as it tracked through Georgia, the Carolinas, and Tennessee. Torrential rain has caused historic flooding in Western North Carolina and Tennessee where hundreds of thousands of people are without power and communities left isolated as roads have been washed away or blocked by landslides. Particularly devastating scenes have come out from Asheville, Chimney Rock, Boone and other surrounding areas in Western North Carolina where rainfall totaled over 20″ in some locations. Unfortunately, the death toll from Helene continues to rise but search and rescue operations carry on, and groups from across Charlotte and beyond rally to deliver much needed supplies to the worst affected areas.
