Grocery stores were swarmed with shoppers preparing to be iced in Monday. Most people were able to stock up on necessities to tide them over for a few days.
The winter storm dumped mostly snow in the high country Monday night. Moderate to heavy snowfall began in the late afternoon in Boone, reaching about three to four inches of accumulation by 10:00pm.
Pile-ups, sliding cars, sirens, and lots of accidents. Across the city, red and blue lights flashed with reports of wrecks and cars spinning out of control Monday night.
Troopers have cleared the scene of several accidents in a row that involved as many as 35 vehicles.
