A few showers Saturday, with sunshine returning Sunday

Saturday starts off fairly quiet, but don’t let the sunshine fool you, it's going to be another muggy day across the area. We’ll see a mix of clouds and sunshine through the morning, with temperatures quickly warming into the 80s. By the afternoon, we’ll have enough heat and moisture around to spark scattered showers and thunderstorms. Not everyone will see rain, but if a storm develops near you, it could produce a quick downpour, gusty winds and plenty of lightning.

The concern tonight is a severe geomagnetic storm of this magnitude can potentially affect the Earth’s power grids, satellites, and aircraft data.

Winter Solstices Officially Arrives Sunday

Sunday starts off quiet and fairly mild for late December. We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds through the day, and temperatures will climb into the upper 50s to near 60 degrees by the afternoon. Not exactly the deep freeze you’d expect for the first day of winter.

The first big snowstorm of the winter hits the Northeast

The Northeast is seeing its first major winter snowstorm arrive just as the Midwest began to escape snow and ice that snarled travel after the Thanksgiving holiday. Some parts of northern New England are expecting up to 10 inches of snow.
