Scattered storms this afternoon and evening

Monday brings another steamy afternoon with temperatures climbing into the mid 90s. When you add in the humidity, it’ll still feel close to 100 degrees at times, so it’s definitely another day to take it easy if you’re spending time outside. The big difference is that scattered thunderstorms are expected to fire up later this afternoon and continue into the evening. Some of those storms could pack a punch with torrential rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. The timing won’t be the same for everyone, though. Some spots may catch a storm before dinner, while others may stay dry until later tonight.

Day 1 of Severe Weather Preparedness Week: Severe Thunderstorms and Tornadoes

Did you know that about 10% of thunderstorms in the U.S. each year are classified as severe? That means they can pack wind gusts of 58 mph or higher, produce hail the size of a golf ball or bigger, or even spawn tornadoes.
