Severe Thunderstorm Watch in place until 1am

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect through 8 p.m. for the entire Charlotte metro and surrounding communities, including Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Caldwell, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Rowan, Stanly, and Union counties. The strongest storms could produce wind gusts as high as 70 mph, hail and torrential rain.

Debby's Aftermath Leaves Thousands In The Dark; Threatens More Flooding In The Carolinas

The weather system dubbed Debby isn't quite done affecting parts of the U.S. While many rivers had receded by Sunday, flood warnings remained in effect in several areas across central and eastern North Carolina, where more thunderstorms were possible over the next few days. The National Weather Service says localized downpours could result in additional flash flooding throughout the coastal Carolinas.
