Gov. Josh Stein and environmental officials warned Thursday that a nearly year-long drought has left several major reservoirs feet below normal levels, keeping dozens of communities under mandatory water restrictions.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 has shaken Japanβs southern main island of Kyushu, leaving dozens of people missing or injured. The quake caused part of a shopping center in the town of Kashima to collapse on Tuesday and also a chimney collapsed at a paper factory. A tsunami advisory was issued but quickly lifted.
A tornado has struck northeastern Wisconsin, causing widespread damage and power outages. The National Weather Service confirmed Monday afternoon's tornado in Winnebago County. Cities including Appleton and Menasha reported severe impacts, with roofs ripped off homes and vehicles flipped over.
French authorities have ordered nearly 4,000 more people to evacuate from Atlantic coast tourist sites because of wildfires. The orders issued Tuesday are widening what may be Franceβs largest peacetime evacuation.
