Police: 70 Animals Seized From Couple’s Home

UPDATE: Two people have pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges after police seized 70 animals from their home.

Andrew Moore, 24, and Stephanie McElhany, 24, were arrested Friday on 9 counts each for animal cruelty.

The couple had their court trial on Wednesday, where they plead guilty and relenquished their rights to the animals and reptiles.

Moore and McElhany will serve 5 years of supervised probation with the condition they cannot own or live in a residence with animals during that time, as well as 100 hours of community service and a fine.

Placement of the animals will be handled by the Humane Society.


MORGANTON, N.C. — Police have arrested two people for animal cruelty after seizing 70 animals from their home.

On December 11th, Burke County Animal Control deputies executed a search warrant in Morganton, N.C. referencing conditions of animal cruelty.

Andrew Moore, 24, and Stephanie McElhany, 24, were arrested on 9 counts each for animal cruelty.

A total of 34 animals and 36 reptiles were seized. These animals included 6 horses, 6 donkeys, 19 dogs, 1 rat, 1 ferret, 1 cat and 36 snakes.

Preliminary charges have been filed against the two suspects and additional charges are pending.
