Man on the Edge: NC’s Instagram Scandal

This video is no longer available.

A 17-year-old Rowan County boy was arrested Friday and charged with cyber bullying after posting nude pictures of teen girls on Instagram.  But the problem is bigger than that.  Six counties in the state are investigating the exact same kind of thing happening over the past few weeks.

In this case, the victim took the shot herself and sent it to her boyfriend.  But somehow, it got out.  And while we’re not blaming the victims, investigators say pictures in the other cases also appear to be selfies.  In fact, a recent study in the Journal of Pediatrics says 40 percent of all teens have sexted, and 25 percent of high school kids have sent nude pictures.  Most of them girls.

The number one reason was that they felt pressured to do it.  But a lot of them just think it’s fun, sexy, and harmless, especially if they’re sending them to a boyfriend.  So how do we as a society get a handle on the problem?
