LILESVILLE, NC — Crews will be back out Saturday morning looking for possible human remains on property in Anson County. They used a backhoe to gently dig on 30 acres in Lilesville this afternoon, after investigators and cadaver dogs searched the property.
It’s owned by the family of a former Wadesboro funeral home owner. Police found two decomposing bodies inside Mary McLendon’s former business on Wednesday. They were there at least two years. People who live across from the search area are shocked.
“I just felt like it was bodies over there once they started digging and everything had the dogs out, and I was like, ‘Wow, really?’ Shocked,” said Wadesboro resident Angeline Gainey.
McLendon has already been convicted of one crime connected to this investigation. A judge sentenced her Wednesday to at least six months in prison.
