Rock Hill Mother Cited after Leaving Children in Unlocked Car

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A mother in Rock Hill was cited after leaving her children in an unlocked car.

Police say she left her three children in an unlocked car outside a Rock Hill grocery store, even though the car was air conditioned and she asked a friend to watch them.

Concerned shoppers noticed three children, two boys, 1 and 3, and a 2-year-old girl, sleeping in the back of the car parked in the fire lane in front of Food Lion and called the police.

The mother, 27, explained to the police that she went to get medicine for her 1-year-old son, who burned his hand climbing on a hot stove and she asked her friend to watch the car, who was in a car 20 feet away.

She admitted that she left the car for at least 5 minutes.

Rock Hill Police Officer Chris Price noticed that the car seat was unsecured while one of the children sat in it.
