MATTHEWS, N.C. – Wilson was in Stumptown Park in Matthews today where he joined volunteers with the F.F. Steven Coakley Foundation as they placed American flags in the park in preparation for tomorrow’s 9/11 Remembrance Events.Β From 70 feet in the air he gave us a look at the flags as they are being placed in the park.
Wilson talked with some of the volunteers and heard some very personal stories onΒ why they came out to help place the 2,997 American flags.
The 9/11 Flags of Remembrance Events begin at 8:30am tomorrow, Thursday, 9/11.Β Β Memory ribbons will be handed out to attendees and a bell will toll beginning at 8:46am and will ring again at the time of each event that occurred during the disasters of September 11th, 2001.Β To find out more about the 9/11 Remembrance Events as well as location of Stumptown Park in Matthews, click HERE.
This SaturdayΒ Charlotte FirefightersΒ will continue their memorial with the 9-11 Memorial Stair ClimbΒ where participants will take on the stairs at the Duke Energy Building to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.Β Also on Saturday, theΒ Matthews Police Department’s upcoming Corn Hole TournamentΒ will raise money for The Special Olympics of North Carolina.
