CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Firefighters from as far at New York will be taking the long climb up the stairs of the Duke Energy Building in Uptown on Saturday to remember their fellow first responders who perished on 9/11.Β  Today Wilson was with some of these brave people who will participate in this Saturday’s 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.

This morning some of the fully geared up firefighters and supporters who cannot climb the stairs on Saturday made the climb up the 110 floors of the building.Β  After catching their breath, Wilson talked with some of the men and women who have been participating in the event since its inception four years ago.Β

Over 500 climbers will represent the 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement personnel and 10 EMS personnel who perished on September 11, 2001.Β  The 110 floor climb is equal to the height of each twin tower.

The climb not only honors the first responders of the tragedy of 9/11, but will also benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.Β  The foundation aids and assist the survivors of fallen firefighters across the country.

The opening ceremony begins at 8:30am with the climb beginning atΒ  9:00am.Β  Go to the 9/11 Memorial Stair Club weblink HERE for more information on the climb.
