Charlotte, NC — A home invasion ended in a police car crash and a manhunt Monday afternoon.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police helicopter buzzed over the neighborhood. Four guys just busted into a family’s home on Carver Blvd. in Northeast Charlotte.
“Don’t break into people’s houses,” said Devon Riley.
It was his effort to reason with those who hit up his neighbor’s house.
“Everybody seems to be armed and dangerous these days. You break in their house, you cross that threshold, anybody is fair game.”
This time, it was a game of hide and seek with police.
Just like the family, officers had just come face to face with the suspected criminals.
“Police were on their way to the victim when a blue Saturn car came around the corner and crashed into the front of the cruiser. Turns out, police say it was the home invaders, and four men ran in opposite directions.
Police questioned several suspects on scene. By 7:30 PM, one was in custody, but police will not release his name until the investigation is finished.
“I get nervous,” said Tyrie Price. “I get nervous starting worrying about my mama’s house.”
Price was with the victims moments after the invasion.
“All of us look out for each other around here,” said Price.
This is one of 250 break-ins in the past two weeks that CMPD is investigating.
Police say that’s up 19 from this time last month.
