NEW YORK (AP) β Two former U.S. poets laureate, Louise Glueck and Mark Strand, have made the longlist for the National Book Awards.
Glueck’s “Faithful and Virtuous Night” and Strand’s “Collected Poems” were among 10 poetry nominees announced Tuesday by the National Book Foundation, which presents the awards. Other prominent poets selected include Edward Hirsch for “Gabriel: A Poem,” Fanny Howe for “Second Childhood” and Claudia Rankine for “Citizen.”
Also cited were Linda Bierds’ “Roget’s Illusion,” Brian Blanchfield’s “A Several World,” Maureen N. McLane’s “This Blue,” Fred Moten’s “The Feel Trio” and Spencer Reece’s “The Road to Emmaus.”
The longlist for young people’s literature was announced Monday. The lists for nonfiction and fiction will be revealed over the next two days, with categories narrowed to five finalists each on Oct. 15.
