TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) β€” Top-ranked Florida State will be without Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jameis (JAY’-mihs) Winston for today’s ACC showdown game against No. 22 Clemson. Late last night, school officials suspended Winston for the entire game after he made some offensive remarks on campus. Winston was originally only going to sit out the first half against the Tigers.

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) β€” Tons of offense is likely on the agenda today when second-ranked Oregon visits Washington State. The Ducks up-tempo offense features a running game that’s averaging 243 yards this season. The Cougars are ranked No. 1 in the nation in passing offense, with an average of 517 yards this season.

ST. LOUIS (AP) β€” The St. Louis Cardinals can earn a playoff berth with a little help. The Cardinals need a win over Cincinnati combined with a Pittsburgh win over Milwaukee tonight in order to earn their fourth straight trip to the post-season.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) β€” AL Central-leading Detroit takes a game-and-a-half lead over second-place the Royals into game two of their weekend series today. Max Scherzer gets the start for the Tigers, looking for his 17th win of the season. The Royals go with ace James Shields, who is 14-7.

KAPOLEI, Hawaii (AP) β€” Tom Pernice (pur-NEES’) is going to have to come up with quite an encore to top his 12-under 60 in the opening round of the Champions Tour Hawaii Championship. The two-time winner on the 50-and-over tour takes a four-shot lead over Mike Allen into today’s second round.
