Second Charlotte Athlete Arrested on Abuse Charges

LANSING, MI — Another Charlotte professional athlete jailed on charges of domestic abuse.

Michigan police arrested Jeffery Taylor Thursday morning at an East Lansing Marriott.

Hornets fans were ready for Taylor to be back on the court this season after an injury, but wonder if it will happen now.

“If you’re making decisions like that off the court, then you don’t even need to be on the court,” said Chris Leath.

Police arrested Taylor for charges of domestic assault, assault, and destruction of property just after 1:00 in the morning Thursday.

Charlotte suddenly becoming the center of the abuse scandal.

The Vanderbilt graduate brings the count to two local athletes facing abuse charges. The Panthers’ Greg Hardy is taking a voluntary, paid leave of absence while he fights his conviction.

“They’re all privileged,” said Mike Parker. “They’re all able to do whatever the hell they want, you know? They’re all set on a pedestal. So, finally, there’s awareness.”

It took the NFL a month to announce major policy changes after video surfaced showing Ray Rice knocking his wife unconscious.

Now, eyes are on Hornets’ Owner, Michael Jordan, who released a statement saying, “The Charlotte Hornets were made aware of the incident involving Jeffery Taylor early this evening. The organization is in the process of gathering more information and doing our due diligence. This is a matter that we take very seriously.”

“If people knew their career would end, and things like that, they’d probably think before they took action,” said Leath.

Fans are now waiting for arrest records to reveal what the player did inside the hotel.

WCCB News called the hotel; workers would not comment on the arrest.
