CHARLOTTE, NC — The Hornets announced the decision to suspend Jeffery Taylor indefinitely late Friday evening.

Taylor’s teammates will be on the court October 8 for the first pre-season game, and Taylor will be in court for his pre-trial domestic assault case.

“If he’s found guilty, he may get cut,” said Sports Radio Host Brett Jensen. “And that’s going to be a blow, because he’s going to be an integral part of the team.”

The Vanderbilt grad has been in the NBA three years. “A lot of people think he should be a starter,” said Jensen.

With all eyes on the NBA, the Hornets released this statement: “…we understand and appreciate the seriousness of this matter and will assist the NBA and law enforcement in any way we can until this comes to an acceptable resolution.”

Players usually receive a ten-game suspension for domestic assault charges. Although, the NBA announced earlier this week it will review that policy.

A judge convicted Carolina Panther Greg Hardy of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. He’s taking a paid leave of absence while he waits for a jury trial.

Michigan police won’t reveal the details surrounding Taylor’s case until his trial. Court records say he assaulted his girlfriend, an East Lansing, Michigan Marriott hotel worker, and damaged hundreds of dollars worth of property.

“The Hornets, right now, have done everything they can until the trial,” said Jensen.

Under the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement, the league does not hand out punishment unless there is a conviction. In the last three years, nine players have been charged with some form of domestic assault. None have been disciplined by the NBA.
