CHARLOTTE, NC — A study analyzing the best and worst states for teachers ranks North Carolina at the very bottom of the list.
Wallethub.com looked at salary, employment rate, and academic factors in all fifty states and the District of Columbia. North Carolina is ranked 51st overall, and that’s a major concern for a state trying to keep its teaching talent.
“We have to look at any study that shows that we’re not where we need to be with teacher salaries,” said CMS Superintendent Heath Morrison. “Not in Charlotte-Mecklenburg, but in the state of North Carolina. I lift up that some good movement happened in our legislative session, but it can’t be a stop there.”
South Carolina fared slightly better with the data, ranking 45th. Wyoming topped the list.
