AIGLE, Switzerland (AP) β The International Cycling Union says Kazakh rider Maxim Iglinskiy has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for EPO.
Iglinskiy’s suspension comes three weeks after his younger brother and Astana teammate Valentin Iglinskiy admitted to doping with EPO.
The UCI says Maxim Iglinskiy tested positive on Aug. 1, four days after completing the Tour de France. Iglinskiy placed 129th in support of Tour-winning teammate Vincenzo Nibali of Italy.
Though Astana quickly fired Iglinskiy’s brother, it had made no statement on its website early Thursday about the latest case.
Iglinskiy faces a disciplinary case by his national cycling federation.
The 33-year-old racer’s biggest success was winning the Liege-Bastogne-Liege one-day classic in 2012.
He has ridden since 2007 for Astana, which is managed by Alexandre Vinokourov, the 2012 London Olympic road race champion.
