LIMA , PERU — The wife of convicted killer Joran van der Sloot says that her husband was stabbed twice by inmates in a Peruvian prison.
Leidy Figueroa, who the convict married while in prison, claims to have smuggled a bloody shirt out of the prison where she visited him Sunday as proof.
The director of Peru’s National Penitentiary Institute, Jose Perez Guadalupe, told a 24-hour television station that Figueroa’s assertions were untrue and described her as a “compulsive liar.”
Van der Sloot was convicted in 2012 of robbing and killing Stephany Flores. He has been linked to the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway, who went missing in Aruba in 2005.
