CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon is expected to appear before a federal judge Thursday for violating the conditions of his release after voting in the mid-term elections.
Cannon became a convicted felon after he pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges in October. It is illegal for convicted felons to vote in elections.
Cannon met with his probation officer Wednesday morning after it was widely reported that he voted on October 30th.
Cannon has been issued a summons to appear before U.S. District Court Judge Frank Whitney Thursday at noon.
Cannon was recently sentenced to 44 months in federal prison in his plea agreement. However, he did not have to immediately report to prison.
Since he violated the conditions of his release, he could be forced to immediately began his sentence.
