CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Republican candidate Thom Tillis beat incumbent Kay Hagan in the North Carolina senatorial race.
Tillis, who was the Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, is also a well known businessman, having risen to the position of partner in the firm Price Waterhouse Coopers.
Tillis edged out Hagan in a very tight race.
Tillis resides in Cornelius, N.C., which is outside of Charlotte, where he and his family have lived since 1998.
