ANSON COUNTY, NC– Anson County Sheriff’s say they have closed their investigation into wrong doings at the Morven Fire Department.
Allegations of questionable purchases, checks not being deposited and unauthorized use of departmental equipment surfaced and sparked an investigation into the Morven Fire Department.
Sheriff’s and the SBI say they obtained bank records and interviewed members of the fire department including the chief and found, “It was obvious from the start that you had a department that was fractured with disgruntled current members and former members. It was also obvious that the department had few accounting policies, poor record keeping and not much accountability with few checks and balances. However, from bank statements investigators found the questioned checks were properly deposited. And from records and statements the fire chief was authorized to use certain departmental equipment.” Sheriff Allen said.
After files from the investigation was reviewed by the District Attorney, they determined that their was insufficient evidence to proceed on any criminal charges.
