CABARRUS COUNTY, NC — Sheriff’s Deputies have released the names of three shooting victims in Cabarrus County.
Investigators believe Reginald Mercer went on a shooting rampage, injuring his mother, Brenda Jackson, killing her daughter, Qutina Carter and another family member, Albert Jackson, Sr.
Rifles in hand, deputies turned drivers away from the crime scene on Shiloh Church Rd. for nearly six hours while they were searching for Mercer. Neighbors were on lockdown in their homes.
“We’ve locked the doors,” said Megan Hughes.
After half a day of keeping neighbors on alert, searching for Mercer with the helicopter and on the ground, Cabarrus County Deputies got a call. The person on the phone said he was in the house across the street from the home where deputies believe he killed his family members.
At that point, deputies say they threw tear gas into the home. Once inside, they say Mercer had just shot and killed himself.
The chaos erupted just after noon when Mercer’s mother called 911. When deputies arrived, they say they found Albert Jackson, Sr. dead in the backseat of a vehicle beside Mercer’s home.
Inside, they say they found Carter dead and Mercer’s mother. Doctors released her from the hospital hours later.
