MATTHEWS, N.C. –  The students at Crown Point Elementary School  had an exciting surprise waiting for them when they arrived at school this morning.  They were welcomed by Wilson, his good buddy Hugo with the Hornets and Lowe’s Book  Bus.  And of course, before getting down to reading business Wilson and Hugo had to create a little chaos in the parking lot after getting kicked out of the principal’s office.

The Charlotte Hornets and Lowe’s Home Improvement have teamed up for The Charlotte Hornets and Lowe’s Book Bus and Hugo’s Reading Revolution   as part of the Hornet’s “Excellence in Education” initiative.  The program comes to elementary schools to demonstrate the importance of reading to children to help improve child literacy.  The Book Bus travels to elementary schools in the Charlotte area and allows a class of students to pick out their own book to take home and keep forever.

Area schools can have Hugo and  the Book Bus visit their school and give some of their students a chance to enjoy the reading fun.  To find out more about The Charlotte Hornets and Lowe’s Book Bus and Hugo’s Reading Revolution go their website HERE.

Members of the Matthews Fire Department also stopped by to talk with Wilson about their “100 Hours of Reading” program to encourage students to read and get the chance to win a ride to school in the firetruck.
