CHARLOTTE, NC — Police say they’re catching up with the suspect they think could be responsible for ten break-ins in two days, all at the same apartment complex.

Police say the suspect is piling up young victims, victims like Madeline Bordeaux.

“He’s knocking and saying, ‘Oh, does so-and-so live here?'” said Bordeaux.

The police say that’s just a game the suspect plays with the college students who live at Arcadia Student Living Apartments. They say the suspect only knocks to see if someone carelessly left their door unlocked so he can walk out with TVs and high dollar electronics.

“It’s really upsetting,” said Bordeaux. The burglar made off with her $1,300 dollar computer.

Add ten more victims to the list, all hit Thursday and Friday evening. Police say one victim was actually home when the robbers broke in. She says she heard someone ringing her door bell just after midnight, but she didn’t get up to answer it. When she woke up the next morning, she realized someone had broken in through a bedroom window and stole her TV.

“Just thinking that I could be woken up in the middle of the night through somebody breaking into my door or window is just scary,” said Ann Elise Pennington.

The suspect, police say, walked out with at least ten TVs by Friday in the crowded college student complex. Still, no one reported seeing anything suspicious at the time.

“You wouldn’t think the wrong people would be in here,” said Bordeaux.

Officers went door to door, warning students to lock up. They sat outside the complex Tuesday night, waiting for the suspect to come back.

Police say the thief is keeping the crimes confined to the Arcadia apartments. They say they are close to catching the suspect. We will keep you updated.
