CHARLOTTE, NC — A 16-year-old boy is in jail after police accused him of robbing and raping a 19-year-old neighbor at knife point.
Malik Allen’s family spoke to WCCB Charlotte after finding out about his arrest.
“My heart go out to whoever the girl was and her family. I know they’re hurting, too,” said Doris Allen.
Doris is Malik’s aunt. She says the family thought Malik was in school, but just before nine in the morning Thursday, investigators suspect him of breaking into his neighbor’s home on Browne’s Ferry Rd.
After robbing the place of electronics, police say he realized the 19-year-old daughter was home and raped her.
“The sexual assault was, unfortunately, a crime of opportunity after the burglary occurred,” said Capt. Rod Golding with CMPD.
Investigators say once Allen left the house, he walked less than two miles to Hucks Rd.
A woman who works in this area tells me a strange boy walked up and asked her to use her cell phone. She says she allowed the boy to use her phone, but then called police immediately.
Investigators put area schools on lockdown. They caught up to Allen, questioned him, and arrested him for the rape, sexual assault, kidnapping and breaking and entering.
“He’s probably scared. He probably feels like he regrets it, but everybody tried with him. He didn’t want to listen. He didn’t wanna do right. Well, he had to learn the hard way,” said Makhiya Allen, the suspect’s sister.
“I hope whoever this little girl was find it in her heart to forgive Malik, and Malik need to apologize to that family,” said Doris Allen.
While family says Malik has never been in trouble before, police say the teen is a suspect in a home break-in that happened earlier this week in a nearby neighborhood.
