CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after an officer shot and killed a 20-year-old woman during a domestic violence call in north Charlotte.

The original call came in just before 9pm on Wednesday night.  Investigators say two women were involved in an argument.

Detectives say Janisha Fonville was holding a knife when officers went inside the home on Bellefonte Drive to speak with her.  Officers say they immediately ordered Fonville to drop the weapon.

Police say she refused their commands and lunged at the officers.  Officer Anthony Holzhauer discharged his service weapon, striking Fonville.  She was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.  Officer Holzhauer has been employed with CMPD since January 25, 2010.

This is not the first time Officer Holzhauer has been involved in a deadly shooting.  Police say he shot and killed an alleged robbery suspect after the two were involved in a scuffle in 2012.

Detectives say that suspect, Michael Laney, reached for a gun during the struggle so Holzhauer discharged his service weapon, killing Laney.

In 2013, Holzhauer was in a shootout with several suspects on North Tryon Street.  However, no one was injured during that shooting.
