Police: Homeowner Shoots And Kills Intruder In Claremont

CLAREMONT, N.C. — Police say a homeowner shot and killed an intruder Monday morning in Claremont.  

Investigators say the homeowner was sleeping when he heard someone breaking into his basement.  He immediately called 911 but shot the intruder in the chest when the suspect broke through the door.  

The unidentified intruder was pronounced dead at the hospital.  Authorities are looking for a second suspect who pulled away from the home in a dark blue mini-van.  Anyone with information should call 911.
