Wet Snow Leaves Charlotte Roads Slushy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte area dodged a bullet with Wednesday night’s snow storm.  The area saw approximately three inches of wet snow.

The snow turned to slush on local roads.  Troopers are asking drivers to drive slowly and use caution.  Most of the Charlotte area saw at least an inch of snow.  It was enough for most of the school districts in the area to cancel school.

The snow will continue to melt with temperatures staying right at or above freezing for most of the day in Charlotte.

The Department of Transportation has dozens of trucks on the road plowing the slushy snow.  Icing overnight is a concern for some areas in Charlotte and other counties to the north of Mecklenburg County.

Duke Energy says approximately 500 people are without power in Charlotte at 10 a.m.  Crews are working to restore power to all those customers at this time.

Areas to the northeast of Charlotte were hit with more snow totals causing more power outages.  Greensboro is nearly 4,000 outages as of 10 a.m.

The Charlotte Area Transit service is working on detour and delay routes for buses.  The LYNX is operating on a normal schedule.  Click HERE for more details on the detoured routes.

There are delays at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.  Be sure to check with airlines before heading to the airport.
