NEW YORK (AP) — Collectors, designers and developers looking for their next statement piece will get a chance to find one at a large auction of salvaged historical artifacts this month.
Urban Archaeology, a one-time salvage company that now manufactures tiles and bathroom accessories, is auctioning off thousands of the objects on March 27-28.
They include the complete staircase railings from an art deco Paris department store and wrought iron gates from St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
Guernsey’s will run the 700-lot auction at the company’s premises.
Highlights include the circa 1925 wrought-iron railings that adorned the central staircase of the Bon Marche department store. Comprised of 14 rails, two newel posts and two connectors, they’re estimated to bring $80,000 to $120,000. If they don’t meet the minimum reserve, the pieces will be sold separately.
